Day #1 in a Zoom School

Day #1 in Zoom School: I got 3 students on today…couldn’t help it, I clapped and squealed like a kid myself! One was a little boy who has been attacking IXL (online learning platform) like a trooper…he had a phone pointed at the top of his spiked hair for 5 minutes, then showed me his new teeth….one girl asked: “miss, how can I upload my work to you?” Little smarty! The other walked all over her house with the phone, chattering excitedly, finally ending with “When are we coming to school? I don’t want to learn on the computer, I wanna learn with you!” I had to deliver the heartbreaking news…this is our new school, but you are all little pioneers… I believe in you, I’m still your teacher, that isn’t gonna change…” Difficult, but lovely little moments. 💞

This is installment number one in my ongoing journal about distance teaching. Names will not be used to protect the privacy of others. Being an at-home teacher is both a blessing and a curse…my classroom is smaller, but the world is literally at our fingertips.  I have nothing but time now, to teach, to share, to grow. Hopefully, it will be the same for my colleagues, my students, and my fellow humans.
